Fire Cider Recipe

Mason Jar with Fired Cider
A Jar that is Brewing.

Fire cider is a nourishing tonic to use during the winter months.

This fire cider recipe is easy and economical to make. However, you do need to plan ahead. It takes a month to “brew” and reach its maximum potential.

Medicinal Vinegars are not new. They date back to the European Middle Ages.

horseradish is to the right

If you are unfamiliar with horseradish root, it is in the picture to the left.

You can usually find it at larger grocery stores like Woodmans or specialty stores like Fresh Thyme.

Grate left-over horseradish and use it as a topping on food.

The color is gorgeous!

I like to put it in individual jars so each family member their own.

Take 1 Tablespoon daily for maintenance and up to 3 Tablespoons (1 Tbsp, three times a day) if you feel a cold coming on.

Fire Cider

Fire cider is a nourishing winter tonic, which we use during the winter months to stay healthy. The beauty of fire cider - it is economical and easy to make at home. However, it does have to sit for one month to reach its maximum strength, so you need to plan ahead. To have a continuous flow during the winter months, as soon as you are done straining one batch, get another batch ready.
Typically, I double this recipe. As long as I have all the ingredients out and am chopping and grating, it just makes sense.

  • Add the honey to the strained liquid if desired.
  • Move the liquid into a clean jar or jars. Store in the fridge.
  • We make small jars so each family member has their own.
